Inspectors Guidance

July 7 2017 The Inspector has raised a number of issues to which Welwyn Hatfield Council have to respond

Submission of the Welwyn Hatfield Local Plan

 The Local Plan and its accompanying Submission Documents have been submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination.

The following documents are now available to view on the Council’s website, and at 16 Inspection Points around the borough. North Mymms Parish Council is one such site.

  • The Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Draft Local Plan Proposed Submission 2016;
  • The Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Draft Local Plan Proposed Submission Policies Map 2016;
  • Errata to the Draft Local Plan and Policies Map regarding the boundary of site SDS1 (WGC4);
  • Schedule of the Council’s Minor Modifications to the Local Plan and Policies Map;
  • The Sustainability Appraisal Report 2016 and separate errata relating to three minor errors;
  • Habitats Regulations Assessment Report 2016;
  • Regulation 22 Consultation Statement for the 2016 consultation, plus 7 appendices covering each previous stage of consultation back to 2007.

All of the representations on the 2016 Local Plan consultation (including Policies Maps, Sustainability Appraisal and Habitats Regulations Assessment) and a range of Supporting Documents can also be viewed online, as well as by appointment at the Principal Office in Welwyn Garden City. Due to their size and number, these documents are not available at the other Inspection Points.

Now that the Local Plan has been submitted, the Council has appointed Louise St John Howe as its Programme Officer – she can be contacted via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by calling 07789 486419. The Programme Officer will work on behalf of the examination Inspector, and be responsible for day-to-day administration including the examination hearings. The Programme Officer will contact all respondents who have indicated that they wish to speak at the hearings in due course, and there is nothing further that those respondents need to do at this stage.

The Welwyn Hatfield Local Plan will be the blueprint for future growth in the borough.

The Local Plan will shape the future of development in our towns and villages between now and 2032 - new homes, new jobs and business premises, open spaces and community facilities for people to use and infrastructure such as roads, schools and healthcare.  It is about supporting the growth of Welwyn Hatfield and a vibrant local economy.

The consultation period ran until the 24th October 2016
